556      *MR. MAZAHIR AMIR:  

Will the Minister for Universities and Boards be pleased to State:-

(a)   What steps are being taken to ensure standardization of education quality across different universities in Sindh?

(b)   Are there concerns regarding significant variations in passing rates between universities? If so, how is the Ministry addressing this issue?

ANSWER

SYEDA MARVI RASHIDI, PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY FOR UNIVERSITIES & BOARDS:-

1. All the Public and Private Sector Universities / Degree Awarding Institutions are boundto follow the standards set by HEC Pakistan.

2. All the Universities are working under their acts which empowered them to formulate their procedure and passing percentage through their statutory bodiesi.e Board of Studies, Board of Faculty, Academic Council, Syndicate and Senate.

(a)   How is the Ministry working with universities to bridge the gap between academia and industry needs?

(b) Are there career counseling and placement services available for students to improve their employability?

ANSWER

1. All Universities are working according to their Acts and every University has been involved with the industries and thereon many steps for the academia and industry relationship. Every University conduct job fairs in collaboration with national and multinational companies.

2. Yes, there are career counseling and placement offices (student’s affairs) available in every University to have students to get suitable jobs in their relevant fields.

Is the Ministry investing in improving the physical infrastructure and facilities in universities across Sindh, including libraries, labs, and classrooms?

ANSWER

SYEDA MARVI RASHIDI, PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY FOR UNIVERSITIES & BOARDS:-

Yes. Despite financial constraints, the Universities & Boards Department has been investing dedicatedly in improving the physical infrastructure including libraries, labs and classrooms in universities across Sindh. During Current Financial Year 2024-25 an amount of Rs.4265.703 Million (4,256 billion) ha been allocated against 51 development schemes pertaining to infrastructural facilities in higher education institutes. Details in ADP-2024-25 from General Sr. No.976 to 1062 (details of schemes are at Annexure placed on the Table of the House.)

1. Is it true that retired officers are holding dual positions in Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Lyari University?
2. If answer to (a) above is affirmative, Provide details of the officers along with their names and positions.

Currently no retired officers are holding dual positions at Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Lyari University simultaneously.

Number of public Universities existing in Karachi as on 01-01-2024?

There are 09 Public Sector University in Karachi as on 01-01-2024. The details are as under:

1. University of Karachi.

2. NED University of Engineering & Technology.

3. Dawood University of Engineering & Technology.

4. Dow University of Health Science.

5. Jinnah Sindh Medical University.

6. Sindh Madressatul Islam University.

7. Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari.

8. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law.

9. Karachi Metropolitan University.
