Provincial Assembly of Sindh’s Secretariat has issued an official notification announcing comprehensive austerity measures aimed at cost-cutting and fuel conservation. These measures will take effect from 11 March 2026 and will remain in force until further orders.

According to the notification, Speaker Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah Shah, has voluntarily waived his salary and all associated perks, including fuel, for a period of two months. Additionally, salaries and benefits of Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) have been reduced by 25%, while officers in Grade 20 and above will face a deduction equivalent to two days’ salary.

Significant administrative changes have also been introduced within the Secretariat. Offices will remain closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and 50% of the staff will work from home on an alternating basis. Employees have been instructed to remain available at all times and report to the office within one hour if required.

To ensure energy conservation, a target of 70% reduction in energy consumption has been set. The use of non-essential electrical equipment will be restricted, and assembly sessions will be held before sunset.

In the transport sector, measures include a 50% reduction in fuel allocation, the suspension of 60% of official vehicles, and the promotion of carpooling to significantly reduce expenses.

It has also been decided that standing committee meetings will be held online. Furthermore, a complete ban has been imposed until June 2026 on the purchase of new vehicles and equipment, as well as on official tours and foreign travel.

Officials stated that these measures have been taken in light of the current economic situation to ensure efficient utilization of government resources.
