Aurat Foundation Delegation meets Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Discussion on Women Empowerment & Women’s Rights

Karachi, June 10, 2026: A delegation of Aurat Foundation, led by Resident Director Ms. Muneezeh Khan and Provincial Program Manager Ms. Malka Khan, called on the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Syed Awais Qadir Shah, at his office.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Speaker on the history, objectives, and ongoing programmes of Aurat Foundation, particularly its work for women’s welfare, empowerment, and the protection of women’s rights.

The delegation informed the Speaker that Aurat Foundation was established in 1986 and has remained actively engaged for the past four decades in promoting women’s rights and gender equality in Pakistan.

Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah appreciated the four decades of services rendered by Aurat Foundation for the promotion of women’s rights, gender equality, and democratic values. He stated that the Provincial Assembly of Sindh has consistently remained the most progressive and women-friendly legislative assembly in Pakistan.

He further noted that, under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the Provincial Assembly of Sindh has passed several landmark pieces of legislation over the past 18 years for the protection and empowerment of women, including the Sindh Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act, 2013, the Protection Against Harassment at Workplace (Amendment) Act, 2018, and the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, 2013, among others.

The Aurat Foundation delegation also presented the Speaker with their book, “Milestones of Struggle and Success,” which documents four decades of struggle, initiatives, and achievements in the field of women’s rights in Pakistan.

The delegation appreciated Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah for his commitment, support, and continued efforts towards the promotion and empowerment of women’s rights, and thanked him for his time and engagement
